A knapsack sprayer is a sprayer that dispenses liquid through a hand-held nozzle attached to a pressurized reservoir on the operator's back. Knapsack sprayers can be used to spray liquids such as fertilizers, herbicides, and fungicides for on-site treatment areas.
Steps to use the knapsack spray:
1. Assemble your sprayer according to the manufacturer's instructions.
2. Make sure you have the proper PPE available including rubber boots, coveralls, gloves and face shields.
3. Make sure the nebulizer is calibrated to the desired dose, see our How to Calibrate a Nebulizer guide.
4. Fill the spray can with the desired amount of water, we recommend always reading and following the manufacturer's label and instructions before use, and using the recommended rate.
5. Measure the desired chemical in the mixing tank in a safe environment. If the chemical container is new and sealed with foil, simply turn the lid upside down, press on the foil seal and twist it off.
6. Add the chemical to the sprayer along with the water. We recommend not mixing more than required.
7. Rinse the measuring cup three times.
8. Agitate the sprayer to ensure the liquid is fully mixed.
9. Start spraying with sprayer on back and adjust to comfort.
Also, when using a knapsack sprayer, PPE personal protective equipment must be worn at all times to prevent the liquid from the sprayer from being splashed all over the body. Protective equipment includes coveralls, rubber boots, chemical-resistant gloves and face shields.
